Defrost mode is a refrigeration cycle that temporarily warms parts of a freezer or cooling system to melt accumulated ice. It is a normal maintenance function, typically scheduled or controlled automatically to preserve efficient airflow and operation.
In cyber security, unauthorized or mistimed activation can turn a routine control into an operational risk: temperatures may rise, stored products may spoil, and staff may need to intervene. Attackers who gain access to refrigeration controls could change operating modes or settings, while defenders can reduce risk by restricting remote administration, segmenting control networks, and monitoring for unexpected mode changes and temperature shifts.
