Data-class listing

A breach record category that groups what kinds of information may be involved, without proving every field was present in every record.

A data-class listing is a breach-record category that names the types of information that may be involved, such as email addresses, contact details, or donation records. It describes possible data classes in the affected dataset; it does not prove that every listed field appeared in every record or was accessed for every person.

This distinction matters when assessing exposure and deciding how to respond. In an attack investigation, a listing may summarize the kinds of data a system could hold even while the precise records accessed remain uncertain. Defenders and affected organizations should avoid treating it as a complete inventory: verify the actual fields and records involved, then tailor notifications and safeguards to confirmed exposure. Even basic identity details can help attackers create convincing phishing messages or impersonate someone.
