Customer remediation

Steps taken to reduce harm to users after a security event, such as compensation, notices, or support.

Customer remediation is the set of steps an organization takes to reduce harm to users after a security incident. It may include notifying affected customers, providing support, helping them secure accounts, or reimbursing verified losses. The appropriate measures depend on what happened and how users may have been affected.

Remediation matters because users may need timely guidance or assistance even while an investigation is ongoing. In real incident response, organizations may offer compensation alongside technical work such as containing the threat, investigating affected systems, and fixing weaknesses. A payment or notice does not, by itself, prove that an incident is contained or that recovery is complete; customer support and technical recovery address different parts of the response.
