Customer Lockbox is a Microsoft approval workflow that can require a customer to approve a support request before a Microsoft support engineer accesses certain customer data. It is designed to give organizations an additional review point over eligible support access; it does not apply to every service, data type, or access path.
In a security investigation, a Lockbox approval record shows that a request was approved, not necessarily that access occurred or data was viewed or copied. Defenders should correlate the request with session records and service audit logs, and verify its scope and time window. This distinction is especially important when a report refers broadly to “logs,” which may include data with different sensitivity and access rules.
