A customer relationship management (CRM) database stores customer records, account details, and interaction history, such as communications, invoices, or sales activity. It helps organizations manage relationships and coordinate customer-facing work.
Because these records can reveal identities, business relationships, and purchasing patterns, a compromised CRM database may create privacy, fraud, and extortion risks. In attacks, criminals may steal or expose CRM data after gaining access to an organization’s systems. Defenders should restrict access, use strong authentication, encrypt sensitive data, and monitor for unusual exports or access. A claim that CRM data was exposed should still be verified before treating it as confirmed.
