Consent scope

the specific limits of what a user has agreed to share, process, or retain.

Consent scope is the specific boundary of what a person has agreed to let a service share, process, or retain. It includes which data is involved, which service or purpose may use it, and how long it may be kept. A user’s permission for one feature does not necessarily imply consent for every connected service or downstream use.

In cybersecurity and privacy, clear consent scope helps limit unnecessary data access and reduce the impact of misuse or exposure. In connected platforms, a user might enable an AI feature that accesses data from another service; the practical question is whether that permission also covers uses such as personalization or advertising. Defenders should review integration permissions, purpose limits, and retention settings separately, since disconnecting a feature may not erase previously stored activity.
