Combat robotics

a competitive setting where robots are built to damage or disable one another.

Combat robotics is a competitive activity in which remotely operated or autonomous robots are designed to damage, disable, or outlast one another. Robots may use weapons such as lifters, spinners, or impact tools, while armor and other mechanical features reduce or redirect damage. Performance depends on how these designs behave under repeated, real-world impacts-not simply how they look or work in theory.

Although combat robotics is not a form of cyber security, it offers a useful example of adversarial engineering: systems are built with an active opponent in mind. The same principle applies to security defenses, which must withstand deliberate attempts to exploit weaknesses. In both settings, unusual protective ideas are hypotheses until tested against realistic attacks; testing helps reveal whether a defense actually changes an attacker’s opportunity or limits the damage.
