Collaborative robotics

Robots designed to work alongside people in shared environments.

Collaborative robotics refers to robots designed to work alongside people in shared spaces, rather than behind cages or in fully isolated industrial cells. In hospitals, warehouses, and offices, these systems may move supplies, assist with repetitive tasks, or interact with staff through sensors, software, and networked control platforms.

From a cyber security perspective, collaborative robots are important because they blend physical safety with digital trust. If an attacker gains access to robot controllers, fleet-management tools, or connected APIs, they may be able to change routes, stop operations, disrupt workflows, or expose sensitive data. Defenses usually include network segmentation, strong authentication, patch management, logging, least-privilege access, and safety interlocks that keep the robot in a safe state if software fails or is tampered with. In practice, securing collaborative robotics means protecting both the robot itself and the systems it depends on.
