A code path is the specific route software follows when certain conditions are met. One input, setting, role, or state can send a program down one branch rather than another, so the same application may behave very differently depending on what is triggered.
In cyber security, code paths matter because attackers often look for branches that are rare, poorly tested, or hidden behind special conditions. Those paths may expose debug functions, bypass checks, or handle errors in unsafe ways. Defenders use testing, code review, and monitoring to map important paths, remove dead branches, and make sure unusual behavior is still covered by security controls.
