A cloud account is an administrative identity used to access and control computing resources hosted by a cloud provider. Depending on its permissions, it may manage servers, storage, databases, applications, and security settings. It is distinct from any single server or service: one account can control many resources.
In cyber security, a compromised or misused cloud account can expose data, enable service disruption, or let an attacker create and manage infrastructure. Defenders should use multi-factor authentication, limit permissions, monitor account activity, and preserve provider logs. Investigators may also target a cloud account to disrupt backend systems supporting an online service; that action can affect operations but does not by itself remove every related service or transaction channel.
