Clear signing

A method of showing transaction details in readable form before a user approves a signature.

Clear signing is a method of presenting transaction details in human-readable form before a user approves a cryptographic signature. A wallet may display information such as the recipient, amount, or requested permissions on the signing device, rather than showing only opaque data or relying on a computer screen.

This matters because a signature authorizes an action: protecting the private key does not ensure the user understands what they are approving. Clear signing can help users spot malicious or unintended requests, including in attacks that trick them into authorizing a transaction. Its protection depends on the wallet correctly interpreting and displaying the transaction format. If details are missing, undecoded, or confusing, users should pause and verify the request before signing.
