CFD stands for Computational Fluid Dynamics. It is a simulation method used to estimate how air, heat, particles, and other fluids move through a space or system. Engineers use CFD to test ventilation patterns, pressure differences, and contamination control before a facility is built or modified.
In cyber security, CFD matters because many industrial and building systems are controlled by software and connected sensors. If those systems are misconfigured, disabled, or tampered with, airflow assumptions can fail and physical safeguards may weaken. In pharmaceutical and other regulated facilities, CFD helps defenders validate that HVAC and cleanroom designs still support required pressure and air changes, even when conditions change. It is not a security tool by itself, but it supports safer design, better risk analysis, and stronger evidence that environmental controls will perform as intended.
