The center of mass is the balance point of a physical build: the spot where its weight is evenly distributed. In small robots, drones, and other embedded devices, shifting that point by moving a battery, adding a sensor, or changing the frame can alter stability, turning, speed, and the way vibration becomes motion. Even a simple platform can behave very differently when its mass is off-center.
In cyber security, this matters because many attacks are physical, not digital. An attacker may tamper with hardware, add weight, or relocate components to make a device drift, tip, misread movement, or fail to navigate correctly. Defenders care about center of mass when checking for tamper evidence, validating a robot’s calibration, or detecting unexpected changes in motion profiles. In short, balance is part of the attack surface for connected machines that interact with the real world.
