A case archive is a stored collection of legal or administrative records, such as grievance files, arbitration documents, disciplinary reviews, personnel records, or benefits cases. These archives often contain names, contact details, medical or employment data, internal notes, and other sensitive personal information.
In cyber security, case archives matter because they are high-value targets for extortion, insider misuse, and unauthorized disclosure. Attackers may seek them to pressure an organization by threatening publication or to harvest personal data for fraud. Defenders should treat case archives as sensitive repositories: limit access by role, encrypt stored files, log views and exports, and keep retention rules tight. Segmentation is especially important so compromise of one system does not expose an entire archive. Good monitoring and backup practices help contain incidents and support investigations.
