Business translation is the skill of turning technical security findings into business language that leaders can act on. Instead of saying only that a server is vulnerable or a control failed, a security team explains what that means for revenue, downtime, legal exposure, customer trust, or operational continuity. In practice, it connects indicators such as exploitability, likelihood, and control gaps to impact and priority.
This matters because cyber security decisions are usually made with limited budget, time, and attention. A CISO who can translate risk helps executives choose between competing fixes, approve urgent remediation, and understand why some issues need immediate action. In attacks such as ransomware, phishing, or cloud misconfiguration abuse, business translation turns technical alerts into clear guidance: isolate a system, reset credentials, notify customers, or accelerate patching. It is also a defense skill, because strong communication makes security programs easier to fund, implement, and measure.
