Business rescue

a legal restructuring process used when a company is in financial distress.

Business rescue is a legal restructuring process used when a company is in financial distress. The goal is usually to keep the business operating while debts are reorganized, assets are protected, and a recovery plan is developed under formal oversight. In practice, this can change who controls the company, how services are delivered, and which websites, email systems, or records remain active.

In cyber security, business rescue matters because restructuring often leaves behind legacy infrastructure that still looks authoritative. Attackers may exploit that confusion with phishing, fake notices, extortion claims, or by abusing old domains and public-facing pages that continue to carry the brand. Defenders should verify whether a company is in administration, identify which systems are still trusted, and monitor legacy assets for misuse. When a victim list or ransomware claim appears, business rescue status should be treated as context, not proof of compromise.
