Business Process Flow

The sequence of tasks and decisions that makes up an operational workflow.

A business process flow is the sequence of tasks, decisions, and handoffs that carries out an operational activity, such as approving a payment or handling a customer request. Mapping the flow helps teams see which people, systems, data, and permissions each step depends on.

In cybersecurity, understanding a process flow helps identify where sensitive information is accessed, where approvals are required, and where controls or logging may be missing. Before automating a workflow with AI or other tools, organizations should validate that the process is correct and define how exceptions are handled. Otherwise, automation can scale mistakes or expose data through poorly controlled integrations.
