Broadcast radio is the one-to-many transmission of audio over radio waves, received by a compatible radio without an internet connection. A station sends a signal that many listeners can tune in to at the same time; the listener generally does not need an account or a networked service.
In cyber security, broadcast radio is distinct from internet-delivered audio: it does not rely on a streaming platform or the listener’s internet connection, though reception and content can be affected by signal coverage or interference. Security teams may also distinguish broadcast from network traffic when assessing a device’s exposure. For example, an internet radio can depend on software, network settings, and external services, while a conventional broadcast receiver primarily receives over-the-air signals.
