Brand-promotion workflow

A software path used to fetch promotional or related content that can become security-sensitive if abused.

A brand-promotion workflow is the software logic that retrieves promotional messages, recommendations, or related content from a server. Although this content may seem separate from an application’s core functions, the workflow can receive network data and may influence what the software displays or processes.

In cyber security, this makes the workflow a potential attack surface. If an attacker can redirect the request or tamper with its response, the application may handle malicious content as if it were legitimate. Defenses include protecting network connections, validating server identity and response data, and limiting what retrieved content can trigger. Promotion and configuration channels deserve the same scrutiny as other software update paths.
