Blind signing

Approving a transaction without being able to meaningfully inspect its details.

Blind signing means approving a cryptographic transaction without being able to meaningfully inspect what it will do. A wallet may show an opaque data string, incomplete details, or a prompt the device cannot decode. The user’s signature still authorizes the transaction, even when its purpose is unclear.

This matters because protecting a private key does not ensure that the action it signs is safe. Attackers may exploit confusing or unsupported signing requests to persuade users to approve unintended transfers or permissions. Clear signing and on-device review can help by displaying readable transaction details, such as the recipient, amount, and requested permissions. These defenses depend on the wallet correctly interpreting the transaction. If details are missing or confusing, pause and verify the request before approving.
