Behavioral score

A risk rating produced by analytics, useful only when it can be tied to evidence and triage steps.

A behavioral score is a risk rating generated by analytics that compares activity-such as a user’s login, device, or access pattern-with expected behavior. In security tools such as User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA), it helps prioritize unusual events for investigation. The score is a signal, not proof of malicious activity.

Scores are most useful when analysts can see the evidence behind them, such as an unusual login location or suspicious actions after authentication, and follow clear triage steps. Without that context, legitimate changes like travel or remote work may trigger false alarms, increasing alert fatigue. Defenders should use behavioral scores alongside identity and endpoint data, verify the activity, and treat the result as an investigation lead rather than an automatic verdict.
