Authenticode is Microsoft’s code-signing system for Windows software. A digital signature can help identify the publisher and verify that signed file content has not changed since it was signed. Windows and security tools can use this information when displaying warnings or applying software policies.
A valid signature does not prove that a download page is genuine, that the software is safe, or that its installation and configuration are authorized. In real attacks, a signed installer may be delivered through a spoofed site or used to deploy legitimate remote-access software for unwanted access. Defenders should check the signer and file integrity, but also verify the download source and monitor whether the software and its configuration are expected.
