Authenticated Project Member

A logged-in user with access to a project, often enough to trigger trusted workflows.

An authenticated project member is a logged-in user who has been granted access to a specific project. In many systems, that role is not fully trusted, but it is trusted enough to view content, submit files, open reviews, or trigger automated workflows. Security boundaries often break down when a feature assumes that “logged in” also means “safe.”

In cyber security, this matters because attackers frequently abuse normal collaboration permissions instead of trying to bypass authentication. If a project member can upload or edit a file that is later parsed on the server, the file may reach sensitive code paths such as renderers, diff tools, or importers. A malicious notebook, document, or archive can then become an attack payload. Defenses include strict role separation, least privilege, file-type validation, safe parsing, and treating all project content as untrusted even when it comes from an authenticated user.
