Analyzer

A tool used to inspect electrical or communication behavior in a device setup.

An analyzer is a tool used to inspect electrical signals or communication behavior in a device setup. In practice, it lets technicians observe what a cable, port, charger, or peripheral is actually doing instead of relying on labels or assumptions. In USB-C Power Delivery work, for example, an analyzer can show negotiated voltages, message exchanges, and whether the connected devices are following the expected protocol.

In cyber security, analyzers matter because many attacks and failures hide in the details of how systems communicate. A malicious or faulty device may send unexpected requests, violate protocol rules, or behave differently under load. Engineers use analyzers to verify trust boundaries, troubleshoot strange behavior, and detect unsafe or noncompliant interactions before they become reliability or security problems. They are a core part of defensive testing for hardware, embedded systems, and industrial or lab environments.
