Alerting is the process by which monitoring systems notify defenders when measured activity crosses a threshold or matches a condition of concern. Alerts can be based on traffic volume, error rates, service availability, or patterns detected across multiple signals. They help teams notice problems quickly, but an alert is an indication to investigate-not proof of an attack.
During DDoS activity, alerting can flag sudden traffic spikes, repeated short bursts, or degradation in service health. Effective thresholds and correlation help teams distinguish malicious patterns from routine fluctuations and respond without being overwhelmed by false alarms. Defenders commonly pair alerts with dashboards, filtering controls, and incident procedures so they can validate the signal and act promptly.
