An AI-enabled attack is a cyberattack that uses artificial intelligence to make offensive activity faster, more scalable, or more convincing. Attackers may use AI to generate tailored phishing messages, automate reconnaissance, or assist with creating and adapting malicious code. The term describes the use of AI as an attacker’s tool; it is distinct from attacks that target AI systems themselves.
AI can lower the effort needed to produce and personalize attacks, but it does not replace the fundamentals of intrusion. Defenses such as strong authentication, least privilege, patching, email filtering, logging, and incident response remain important. Security teams should assess specific techniques and evidence rather than treat broad claims about AI as proof of a new or successful attack.
