Aggregate data

Summarized information drawn from many records, not tied to one person.

Aggregate data is information combined or summarized across many records, so it describes a group or overall pattern rather than identifying one person. Examples include totals, averages, or counts. It differs from individual-level records, which may contain details about specific people.

In cyber security, aggregation can reduce privacy risks, but it does not automatically make information harmless or unrestricted. Detailed summaries may still reveal sensitive patterns, and access to data can be limited by policy, law, or payment conditions. In practice, defenders classify aggregate and person-level data separately, enforce appropriate access controls, and log how systems-including AI agents using external tools-request or retrieve it.
