An agentic security system is a workflow made of specialized AI components, or agents, that each handle a different security task. One agent may search for suspicious code or events, another may validate whether the finding is real, and another may summarize evidence, deduplicate alerts, or suggest remediation steps for a human analyst.
This architecture matters because security work is not just detection. Good defense depends on separating discovery from verification and response, which reduces false positives and makes results easier to trust. In software security, these systems can scan source code for memory-safety bugs, then check exploitability or remove duplicate reports before handing findings to engineers. In operations, they can triage alerts, enrich context, and prioritize the most urgent cases. Attackers can also use similar multi-step systems to automate reconnaissance or exploit development, so defenders need safeguards, audit trails, and human review. The main advantage is scale without losing precision.
