Action validation is a check that confirms a sensitive operation is authorized and appropriate before automated software carries it out. Depending on the system, validation may verify the requested action, the user’s permissions, the target, and whether required human approval has been given.
It matters because compromised or over-permissioned automation can otherwise make harmful changes quickly. In agent-like workflows, validation can limit what tools an agent may invoke and require approval for high-impact actions, such as changing access settings or modifying important records. Defenders should combine these checks with least-privilege permissions and audit logs so they can prevent unauthorized operations and investigate attempted or completed actions.
