Access disablement

A control that can turn off a user, path, or session when access must be stopped.

Access disablement is the ability to stop a user, connection path, or active session from reaching a system. Depending on the environment, this may mean disabling an account, revoking a credential, blocking a remote-access route, or terminating a session.

In cyber security, this control limits exposure when access is no longer authorized or appears risky. For vendor remote access, organizations should know how to identify active connections and promptly disable them when needed. Testing the process and keeping records of access changes and session activity help demonstrate that the control works in practice.
