.wpress archive

The backup file format used by the plugin to package site data for migration and restore.

A .wpress archive is the backup package used by some WordPress migration tools to bundle site data for export, restore, and transfer. It can contain database dumps, media files, configuration values, and other content needed to rebuild a site on another server.

In cyber security, this format matters because restore workflows often treat archive contents as trusted input. If parsing or import logic is weak, attacker-controlled data inside a .wpress file can trigger SQL injection, leak secrets, or help escalate to remote code execution. Defenders should treat imported archives like any other untrusted file: restrict who can upload or restore them, keep the plugin patched, and use parameterized queries and strict validation when archive data is written back into the application.
