Workflow editor

An account role that can change and run automation workflows.

A workflow editor is an account role in an automation platform that can create, modify, and often run workflows. Those workflows may connect apps, move data, call APIs, and trigger server-side actions. Because the role can shape what the automation engine does, it is more powerful than a basic viewer or operator account.

In cyber security, the workflow editor role matters because it sits close to execution. If the platform has weak isolation, a malicious editor may abuse expressions, scripts, or connectors to reach sensitive data or execute unintended commands. Defenders treat this role as a privileged boundary: limit who gets it, require strong authentication, review workflow changes, and keep the automation runtime sandboxed. In real environments, workflow editors are often the starting point for attacks against automation servers, secrets stores, and internal services, because one compromised editor account can turn ordinary automation into a broad attack path.
