Weather radar is a radio sensing system that observes atmospheric conditions by transmitting electromagnetic pulses and measuring the energy reflected back from rain, snow, hail, and other particles. The return signal is processed into information such as precipitation intensity, storm structure, and motion.
In cyber security, weather radar matters because it is often part of critical infrastructure and connected data pipelines used by aviation, transportation, and emergency services. Attackers may try to disrupt it through unauthorized access to feeds, manipulation of stored or transmitted measurements, denial-of-service against exposed services, or radio-frequency interference that degrades the signal. Defenders protect these systems with network segmentation, authenticated updates, logging, redundancy, and cross-checks against other sensors so corrupted data is easier to spot.
