A vise is a clamping tool that holds an object steady while you work on it. In electronics and hardware security, vises are used to secure printed circuit boards, cables, enclosures, or small components during soldering, probing, cutting, or inspection. The main security value is control: a stable target reduces slips, accidental shorts, and trace damage, all of which can ruin a repair or forensic analysis.
In real defensive workflows, a vise helps technicians rework boards, remove chips, inspect tamper marks, or debug hardware without using their hands as a clamp. Attackers can also rely on vises during physical access operations because steady positioning makes disassembly and modification easier. For that reason, a vise is not a cyber defense by itself, but it supports safer, more repeatable handling of devices and can improve the quality of both attack and defense work.
