Verification debt is the backlog of review, checking, and accountability work that builds up when content or code can be generated faster than people can examine it. It is not just a quality problem: it is an assurance problem. When output is treated as trustworthy before it is verified, errors, unsafe assumptions, and missing context can move into real workflows.
In cyber security, verification debt matters because attackers can exploit speed gaps. AI-generated phishing, malicious code suggestions, fake documentation, or fabricated reports can overwhelm manual review and create pressure to approve too quickly. Defenders reduce this debt with review gates, provenance tracking, testing, validation, and clear ownership. The goal is to make sure high-impact output stays a draft until it has earned trust.
