Update pipeline

the delivery path for software fixes, definitions, and feature changes.

An update pipeline is the delivery path that moves software fixes, signature definitions, policy changes, and new features from a vendor’s build systems to end users’ devices. It usually includes packaging, signing, testing, staged rollout, and final installation. In security products, the pipeline is especially important because updates can change detection logic, user interface status messages, and how telemetry is reported.

In cyber security, a reliable update pipeline matters because a bad update can create false alerts, disable protections, or break management visibility even when no attacker is present. Defenders use staged deployment, code signing, rollback mechanisms, and telemetry checks to catch problems before they spread. Attackers also target update pipelines because compromising them can distribute malicious code at scale, making the pipeline itself a high-value security boundary.
