trust_remote_code is a loader flag that permits custom Python code from a remote repository to run locally when a model or component is loaded. It is common in AI tooling that fetches model repos, config files, and helper modules from hubs or package-like sources.
This matters because it turns a data-loading step into a code-execution boundary. If an attacker can tamper with a repository, or convince a victim to load an unreviewed one, the loader may execute arbitrary code in the context of the host process. Defenders treat it as an opt-in trust decision: review the repository, pin exact commits, isolate inference jobs, and run with least privilege. In practice, security teams should assume any remote-code-enabled model repo is executable software, not just a set of weights.
