TRS-80

a line of personal computers from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The TRS-80 was a line of personal computers sold in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In cyber security, it matters as an example of legacy computing: old systems often run unsupported software, rely on obsolete storage or serial interfaces, and were designed before modern authentication, encryption, and patching practices existed.

That makes TRS-80-era machines relevant in labs, museums, retrocomputing, and some industrial or embedded environments where old hardware still survives. Attackers may abuse weak physical controls, removable media, or bridge devices that connect legacy computers to newer networks. Defenders focus on isolation, write-protected media, careful preservation of software images, and tight control over adapters and maintenance ports. The TRS-80 is a reminder that aging technology can remain operational long after its original security assumptions have expired.
