TLS receive path

The code path that handles incoming TLS traffic before it reaches the application.

The TLS receive path is the code path that processes incoming TLS-encrypted traffic before the data is handed to an application. In a normal stack, this logic decrypts records, checks protocol state, and verifies that the stream is well formed. In kernel TLS (kTLS), part of that work can happen in the operating system instead of in user space, which can reduce overhead but also places sensitive parsing and error handling in a lower-level, shared component.

This matters because bugs in the receive path can affect many services at once and may be reachable simply by sending crafted network traffic. Attackers look for parsing mistakes, boundary checks, and exceptional-condition handling to trigger crashes, data exposure, or code execution. Defenders should inventory where kTLS or similar features are enabled, keep kernel builds and backports current, and treat receive-path flaws as high-priority patches since they sit directly on the network-facing edge of the host.
