Time Deposit

A fixed-term savings product where money is placed for a set period under agreed conditions.

A time deposit is a fixed-term savings product in which money is placed with a financial institution for an agreed period and under specific conditions. The customer usually receives a defined return, but access to the funds is limited until maturity, and early withdrawal may reduce or cancel the expected interest.

In cyber security, time deposits matter because they are often opened and managed through online banking and digital identity systems. That makes the onboarding flow a target for phishing, credential theft, and account takeover. Attackers may try to hijack the login, fake an identity-verification step, or capture approval codes so they can open accounts or redirect funds. Defenders reduce this risk with strong identity assurance, multi-factor authentication, secure channels for notifications, and checks on contract acceptance and withdrawal requests. For users, the rule is simple: start from official channels and treat every login prompt or one-time code as sensitive.
