Telecom netblocks

Large IP address ranges assigned to telecommunications providers and their infrastructure.

Telecom netblocks are large blocks of IP addresses assigned to telecommunications providers and the networks they operate. A netblock is a routing and ownership concept: it groups many addresses under one provider, one regional backbone, or one infrastructure segment. In security work, that label helps analysts understand whether traffic is coming from a consumer line, a hosting provider, or a telecom carrier network.

They matter because attackers often hide behind, or move through, telecom ranges when they relay traffic, scan for exposed devices, or access targets through regional infrastructure. Defenders also use netblocks for filtering, correlation, and threat hunting: repeated activity from the same carrier space can indicate a campaign, a proxy layer, or an unusual concentration of exposed systems. In surveillance-device investigations, telecom netblocks can show that the affected devices are spread across provider networks rather than isolated home routers.
