A stability issue is a problem that disrupts normal operation by causing crashes, hangs, failed launches, or unreliable behavior. In practice, it means a system, app, driver, or utility no longer behaves predictably under normal conditions.
In cyber security, stability issues matter because attackers can abuse them for denial of service, while defenders must also watch for accidental instability introduced by patches, drivers, plugins, or peripheral software. A seemingly minor compatibility problem can stop applications from starting, break monitoring tools, or create noisy failures that hide a larger threat. Security teams often test updates in stages, isolate nonessential components, and compare crash patterns to separate a software bug from compromise. Not every crash is an intrusion, but repeated instability is always worth investigating.
