The Spotlight feed is Snapchat’s public short-form video surface, where clips are ranked for broad discovery rather than shown only to followers. Like other recommendation feeds, it is a visibility layer: a video can be uploaded successfully but still reach very few people if the ranking system does not promote it.
In cyber security, this matters because public recommendation systems can amplify scams, impersonation, misinformation, and synthetic media at scale. Attackers may use attention-grabbing clips to push fake giveaways, malicious links, or social-engineering lures, while defenders may tune ranking, moderation, and provenance signals to reduce the spread of suspicious content. Because visibility is controlled separately from posting, a platform can allow uploads while limiting reach, making the feed an important trust-and-safety control point.
