SOC as a service

A subscription model for outsourced security operations center functions.

SOC as a service is a subscription model in which an external provider delivers some or all security operations center functions. These may include monitoring security telemetry, triaging alerts, investigating suspicious activity, and escalating incidents to the customer. The exact scope varies: a provider may only notify the customer, or may also take agreed response actions.

This model lets organizations access security operations expertise without building a full in-house SOC, but it creates a trust boundary. Customers should define which systems and data the provider can access, how quickly alerts are handled, who is authorized to respond, and what remains the customer’s responsibility. In real attacks, effective detection and containment depend on clear handoffs and timely access to relevant logs and endpoints. Defenders should verify these responsibilities through service agreements and incident-response procedures.
