SOAPACTION

An HTTP header used in SOAP-based requests; in this case it is identified in the CVE record as part of the attack path.

SOAPACTION is an HTTP header used by SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) clients to specify the operation requested from a service. A server may use its value to route or process a SOAP request, alongside the request body and other protocol details.

In cyber security, how a server handles this header matters: unsafe processing can contribute to vulnerabilities such as command injection. In the D-Link DIR-868L CVE context, the record identifies the SOAPACTION argument in the HNAP CGI handler as part of the reported attack path. That description does not, by itself, establish active exploitation. Defenders should restrict access to router management services and replace unsupported devices that cannot receive security updates.
