SMPTE ST 2110

A standard for carrying separate audio, video, and metadata streams over IP in real-time production.

SMPTE ST 2110 is a broadcast standard for transporting professional media as separate audio, video, and metadata streams over IP networks in real time. Instead of wrapping everything into one traditional baseband signal, each essence travels independently, which gives production teams more flexibility for routing, mixing, and processing.

In cyber security, that flexibility also creates a larger operational dependency on network timing, switching, and management systems. If an attacker disrupts packet flow, manipulates synchronization, or compromises control infrastructure, the result can be dropped frames, desynced audio, or a failed live output. Defenders therefore monitor latency, jitter, packet loss, and clock integrity, and they isolate production networks, secure multicast and management planes, and use redundancy to keep live workflows resilient.
