Sim-to-real validation is the process of testing an AI or control model in simulation before it is allowed to operate real equipment. The goal is to see whether behavior that looks safe and correct in a virtual environment still holds when the system faces real sensors, timing, noise, and physical constraints.
In cyber security, this matters because industrial AI can affect machines, not just dashboards. A model that behaves well in simulation may still fail if it is exposed to altered data, unexpected states, or a manipulated control path. Defenders use sim-to-real validation to reduce the risk of unsafe motion, downtime, and damage before deployment. Attackers may try to exploit gaps between simulated and real conditions, so strong validation, change control, and rollback procedures help catch problems before they reach the plant floor.
