SideScanning is an agentless inspection method for cloud security. Instead of installing software inside a VM, container host, or storage service, the platform inspects the target from the outside using cloud APIs, snapshots, metadata, or provider-native access. This lets defenders examine workloads and storage without changing the workload itself or waiting for agent rollout.
It matters because cloud estates are large, temporary, and often spread across multiple accounts and providers. SideScanning can reduce deployment friction, lower operational overhead, and help security teams find misconfigurations, sensitive data, exposed services, or vulnerable assets quickly. In attacks, the same visibility can reveal weak permissions, public storage, or workloads that are reachable from sensitive paths. In defense, it is used to build inventory, assess exposure, and prioritize remediation without relying on in-guest tools.
