A SharePoint farm is a grouped deployment where several servers, databases, and services operate as one environment. Instead of a single standalone server, a farm may separate web front ends, application services, search, and database components so the platform can scale, balance load, and stay available if one host fails.
In cyber security, the farm matters because attackers often target the shared control plane rather than one machine. A vulnerability on any farm component can expose the whole environment, especially when service accounts, trust relationships, or shared configuration are reused across servers. Defenders map the farm topology, patch every node in the supported update branch, and harden each role because a weakness in one layer can become a foothold for code execution, credential theft, or lateral movement.
