Session enrichment

adding extra context to a login or connection to improve risk decisions.

Session enrichment is the practice of adding extra context to a login or connection before a security system decides whether to trust it. Instead of judging access only by IP address or network location, defenders combine more signals such as device posture, user history, geolocation, authentication method, time of day, and behavioral patterns. This creates a fuller risk picture for each session.

It matters because attackers can make hostile traffic look ordinary by using residential proxies, VPNs, or other infrastructure that blends in with normal activity. A network check alone may miss that disguise. Enrichment helps security teams spot sessions that look familiar on the surface but are unusual in context, and it can trigger step-up authentication, tighter monitoring, rate limits, or blocking. In modern defenses, session enrichment supports risk-based access control and reduces blind trust in traffic that merely resembles legitimate user behavior.
